i am in Cancun, Mexico for a conference. It is actually as exciting as it sounds because the conference goes from 9am to 12.00pm and then we are free to do what we like.Tough isn't it! I have been swimming with dolphins and promise to post a photo of me standing upright in the water with them pushing at the soles of my feet, amazing! I might go and see some Mexican pyramids and ruins, or tripline through a forest, or I might go back to the pool. Choices...choices...(I am not bragging, seriously)
The hotels here have an all-inclusive policy. That is, you pay before you arrive and then you can have whatever you want, whenever you want, food, drinks including spirits, champagne etc. I have seen people say, "Oh I don't usually drink/have dessert/five course meals/email all day, but what the heck!" and I have done a little of that myself. I have had champagne with my buffet lunch...
I began to notice after a few days that the same restaurant staff were there morning, noon and night, so I asked a senior manager at the restaurant and he said they earn US$6 per day - per day!! and they consider that they have good jobs. I was shocked by that but was assured that the cost of living for Mexicans in Mexico is a lot lower than I would expect. I am going to make sure that I give my favourites lots of tips before I leave. I did this morning and it felt good. There is a tiny little woman (probably not much more than a teenager really) who cleans around the lobby and toilets. I gave her some money today as I thought she must appear invisible to most people and is not in the restaurant and doesn't get tips. If the restaurant staff who speak some English earn $6 per day, what would she earn? I have no idea, but today she is walking around smiling and I think that's a good thing.
The conference itself has been amazing and I have enjoyed every minute of it. The whole hotel is full with the people attending the conference so there are always people to talk to who I have something in common with. I have met some lovely ladies (Hi Toni, Hi Lynn!) In the afternoons when it is too hot almost to breathe, I retreat to the balcony of my room and tan the bits of me that don't get tanned on the beach or around the pool. This time next week I will be back at work, saving like crazy for the next holiday. I really don't think you can have too many holidays... I recommend that everyone tithe to a holiday account and take themselves somewhere they can rest, relax and not think of anything. If anyone is interested in where I am staying, look up the Beach Palace Resort, Cancun, Mexico. I recommend it. If you are curious about the conference, go to www.abraham-hicks.com. I recommend that too. Their next conference is on a cruise ship leaving Rome and going around Greece and Turkey in September....I am going to have to save really hard, lol!!
Talk soon, all is well!
